I know it’s a bit cheeky of me to put this on here, but I’m doing it anyway ;-) This is my effort to raise some money for our local hospital, I’m going to dunk myself in the water at Portishead Marina and a huge dog will come and rescue me.

I wanted a challenge that was a bit different to other events, I’m not a strong swimmer – I learnt as an adult and once swam a length of a pool. But I panic when I’m at a depth where my feet can’t touch the bottom or I can’t grab onto the edge of the pool. As a result I’ve not been in the water for years, so I’m really banking on being rescued by a furry friend on the day otherwise I’m in trouble! It’s a worry, but nothing in comparison to what patients and families encounter when faced with the uncertainty of a diagnosis, an illness or treatment.
The RUH have helped me time and time again, without them we couldn’t have got through losing some close family members on both my wife’s and my side of the family over the last few years, and again recently whilst I myself was awaiting a scan – luckily I received good news, but of course not everyone does. As a result I want to help the Forever Friends Appeal, who in turn is helping the RUH, which of course helps not only patients but their families too.
