Use SNES Pads on your PC (continued)

Not much to do now apart from the actual extension leads.  Cut the extension leads to length, mmmonkey cut them so they were about 30cm long, then strip the outer cable to reveal the inner wires.

If you have a multimeter/continuity tester then use it along with the diagram on the previous page to work out the correct colour wire for each signal.  If you don't have a continuity tester, then mmmonkey would recommend cutting open the connector that isn't used in this mod, you can then work out which colour wire is used for each signal by comparing it to the diagram on the previous page.

Before soldering the extension leads into place, place the rubber grommet into place ready for later.  If you intend to only use 2 pads, then the USB lead can go through this grommet also.  You can also see that mmmonkey has labelled the sockets "1" and "2".

If you've got any extra wires, just cut them off.  Then strip the ends of the remaining wires, you don't have to "tin" them as it may make pushing them through the Vero Board more difficult.  Pad 1 goes along row 4, solder Power to 4A, Ground to 4B, Clock to 4C, Latch to 4D and Data to 4E.

Pad 2 is much the same, it goes along row 5, Power to 5A, Ground to 5B, Clock to 5C, Latch to 5D and Data to 5F.  Once done soldering the extension leads in, trim the excess wire from the underside of the board for both sets of leads.

The plastic casing includes clamps for the wires, screw them into place as it will make the finished unit a lot tougher (however - you may have trouble using the clamps if you've got more than 2 cables to hold)

Then test the fit and assemble the casing, remembering to fit the screws which holds the unit to the parallel port of your PC.  There is also a photo of the finished unit if you decide not to route the USB lead out of the side of the parallel port connector.

This adaptor was designed using the information provided with PPJoy for the DirectPad Pro interface, this driver works on various different versions of Windows and includes the original information for making this converter.  Other drivers are available, like DirectPad Pro and NTPad.   mmmonkey has tried this with official SNES Pads, and a Competition Pro Pad, both worked fine.
